Our Heritage

Building on a decades-long tradition of innovation.

A/Z Corporation has become a recognized leader in design, construction, and maintenance services with a focus on technology-orientated markets. Our unwavering responsibility to our clients has allowed A/Z to serve some of the region’s most recognized companies, many of which rank in the Fortune 500 and 1000. With this success, A/Z has remained a steadfast employer that averages 550 team members who successfully supported more than $1 billion of work over the past five years alone.

This steadfast operating culture began after founder Ed Lorenz’s tenure in both the United States Army and Navy. After a decade of honorable service that included deployment to Korea, Ed worked at Electric Boat while obtaining his Unlimited Electrical Contractor License. Upon receiving his license from the State of Connecticut, Ed founded A/Z Electric, Inc. in 1968 and then Ledyard General Contractors in 1972. Through the natural development of a succession plan, the leadership of both companies began transitioning to Perry Lorenz in 1994 when the two companies consolidated to become A/Z Corporation.

In April 2019, A/Z was acquired as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cianbro. Cianbro is 100% employee-owned organization that ranks in ENR’s Top 100 U.S. Construction Firms. With A/Z, the company employs more than 4,500 team members operating in 40+ states. Cianbro performs work in diverse construction markets including industrial, manufacturing, infrastructure, power and energy, and building.

“Cianbro and A/Z are compatible organizations with very similar philosophies towards people, operating culture, workplace safety, and towards their respective clients,” said Andi Vigue, CEO of Cianbro. “We each grew from small family-owned companies with devoted hard-working employees who are experts in their profession. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cianbro, A/Z Corporation maintains its identity, mission, and leadership while benefiting from the unique strengths from being part of a larger organization.”
