Watch Hill Yacht Club Lift Begins

Since we originally linked the story announcing plans to raise the Watch Hill Yacht Club to a safer elevation above the FEMA flood height, our team has been hard at work to initiate this logistically complex sequence of work.

With new steel pilings driven firmly into the bottom of Watch Hill Cove, the team has begun the careful lifting operation that will ultimately raise the entire yacht club 14 feet above its original height. The lifting sequence, which is driven by a series of hydraulic jacks, has been meticulously modeled in 3D to ensure the highest degrees of coordination and safety.

When the yacht club is raised to its final elevation, a set of massive steel beams will be placed under the structure to provide it with the strength and stability to stand strong for a least another century on the cove.
