Recent Groundbreakings
A/Z Corporation has recently initiated work on the following projects:
Hamilton Sundstrand: CHP Plant
Work is underway for a new cogeneration system for aerospace manufacturer Hamilton Sundstrand at their Windsor Locks, Connecticut headquarters. The system will serve a production facility and is to be installed at the site of an existing loading dock. Extensive preparation is planned to prepare the area for the complex equipment and the building addition that will house it. Interior and exterior demolition will remove the loading dock and open up the area for an expansion. This addition will house a 5.4MW Solar Turbines dual fuel gas turbine generator that can run on both natural gas and ultra-low sulfur diesel.
Northeast Utilities: Transmission Operations Center
Working in concert with the S/L/A/M Collaborative and van Zelm Engineers, A/Z Corporation is providing Design / Build services for Northeast Utilities’ new Transmission Operations Center. The facility will house both administrative office space and vital technical areas in over 40,000 square feet. This mission critical operations hub will provide grid operators with the latest equipment to manage electrical transmission to NU’s approximately 2 million customers throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
Genzyme Corporation: cGMP Operations Center
Genzyme Corporation’s growth has made it necessary for the company to expand its operations to include an additional center that can handle an increased volume of business. There will be plenty of space in the new cGMP Operations Center when renovations to an existing building are complete: A/Z is collaborating with Signer Harris Architects and Vanderweil Engineers to bring the massive 285,000 square foot building operational. The cGMP warehouse and a two-story office area will host approximately 165 Genzyme staff members. The offices are expandable by 14,000 square feet to accommodate another 35 employees as the company grows.
Memorial & Library Association: Westerly Public Library Renovations
The Memorial and Library Association, a private non-profit association in Westerly, Rhode Island selected A/Z Corporation to serve as Construction Manager for their library renovation project. The Westerly Public Library, located in downtown Westerly, is constructed of ornate masonry that dates back to 1894. This project aims to update the interior of the facility while restoring its historic charm. The 50,000 square foot renovation will create 20% more usable space without expanding the footprint of the building. Granite and millwork will be fabricated to match the existing historic finishes and profiles, both inside and outside the library. The project will update the library for the current needs of the community while blending in with the historical atmosphere of downtown Westerly.
