A/Z was engaged to provide general and specialty construction services for the installation a new CHP system in Wesleyan University’s central utility plant. The project involved the installation of a combined heat and power system composed of a reciprocating engine as the prime mover, a 22,000-pound, 2.3 MW Jenbacher generator, a waste heat recovery steam generator, and ancillary CHP equipment while maintaining electrical service to the active campus. Additionally, the team installed all conduit and cable; high pressure steam, jacket water, aftercooler water, lube oil piping, and sub-metered gas piping; and a double-wall central utility plant stack. The successful project has resulted in a reliable source of energy for the university with the capacity to fulfill over 80% of the campus’ requirements.

Wesleyan has been fortunate to have worked with A/Z since 2000 on various projects... A/Z’s field personnel are knowledgeable and proficient at many tasks but most importantly they adopt the goals of the project and of the institution and work tirelessly to support them. A/Z is adept at understanding an institutions’ zeitgeist and adjusting itself to support it. Working with A/Z is a not only a pleasure, but it is fun.
