Bangor Region YMCA Reaches Major Funding Milestone as Construction Advances

The future Cathy Gero Bangor Region YMCA is moving closer to reality following a significant new funding commitment and continued progress at its Main Street construction site in Bangor, Maine.

News Center Maine recently reported that the Bangor Region YMCA secured nearly $10.8 million through New Markets Tax Credit financing. The investment brings the organization closer to completing its fundraising campaign for the approximately $57.8 million community facility.

A/Z is serving as construction manager for the new three-story, 82,000-square-foot YMCA. Designed to expand the organization’s ability to serve the region, the facility will include two swimming pools, a gymnasium, fitness and wellness spaces, childcare areas, and expanded access to health and community services.

Steel erection is currently transforming the site as the building’s structure takes shape. Following completion of the structural framework, the project team will focus on enclosing the building and making it weather-tight ahead of the winter season.

The new YMCA represents an important investment in the health and well-being of the Bangor community. A/Z is proud to work alongside the Bangor Region YMCA, SMRT Architects and Engineers, and the project’s many community and financial partners to bring this long-planned facility to life.

Construction is anticipated to be completed and the facility turned over to the Bangor Region YMCA in fall 2027.
