Heating Plant at GE Aviation to Undergo Major Upgrades

We are excited to announce that GE Aviation has selected A/Z Corporation as its construction management partner for the Central Heating Facility Project. This initiative consists of major upgrades to the utility infrastructure system that drives its Lynn, MA manufacturing campus.

GE’s Aviation division has been a fixture in the city of Lynn, MA since 1892, playing a vital role in our nation’s defense. Today, the company’s production and operational requirements are evolving to support the development of the latest generation of aerospace technology. Its Lynn facilities are powered by a central plant that was originally constructed in 1912, and the company has engaged A/Z to manage a series of major upgrades to expand the building and boost its capacity.

The Central Heating Facility Project is primarily oriented around the addition of three new high-pressure boilers ranging from 1200-2200 BHP, which are each designed to generate 220 psig of saturated steam. The facility must undergo major infrastructure renovations to accommodate this powerful equipment. This includes the addition of new structural steel and the infill of the unused basement area. New breeching will be installed to carry the flue gas through openings on the east side of the facility connecting to three boiler stacks, which will be extended by 20 feet for a total height of more than 80 feet above grade.

Boiler feedwater will be supplied from one packaged skid-mounted deaerator with three 50 HP boiler feed pumps. In addition to the substantial MEP installations and upgrades, the historic brick exterior will be refreshed and repaired as part of this project.
