Following the installation of a new cogeneration plant, Pratt & Whitney required renovations and upgrades to their campus utility infrastructure. The project encompassed the installation of more than two miles of 15 kV cable between the incoming power station and the boiler house. The project team worked in close collaboration with Pratt & Whitney facilities personnel in order to understand the exact needs of their Middletown campus and develop solutions that would provide a reliable and robust response to these needs. After A/Z’s electrical team established the precise electrical requirements for the campus, it was determined that line reactors were required to limit fault current. The project team constructed equipment pads and provided equipment and electrical installations to support these line reactors. As the project evolved, A/Z was also selected to perform the installation of control wiring for paralleling equipment and the remote operation of circuit breakers. Close collaboration with Pratt & Whitney’s facilities personnel ensured that utility service continued uninterrupted to the leading aircraft manufacturer’s operational campus.
