A/Z Helps Bring New Life to Westerly’s Tower Street Community Center

The opening of the Tower Street Community Center marks a new chapter for a familiar Westerly property. A/Z served as Construction Manager for the project’s first phase, helping transform the former Tower Street Elementary School site into a new resource for community services, healthcare, and shared workspace.

The project followed an assessment that identified significant building system deficiencies, deteriorating roofing, and hazardous materials in the former school. Replacing the aging facility created an opportunity to rethink how the property could serve Westerly residents for years to come.

The completed first phase includes a single-story, 8,000-square-foot building with common areas, co-working spaces, and a portion of the planned facilities for Wood River Health Center. A/Z managed construction from foundations and structural steel through the building enclosure, interior finishes, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The scope also included new sidewalks around the building.

This initial phase supports a broader vision for a 40,000-square-foot community center incorporating recreational amenities, expanded healthcare facilities, and classrooms for the Westerly Education Center. For A/Z, the project reflects the lasting value of construction that connects people with services and opportunities close to home.
