CHP Facility at Hunterdon Medical Center

The busy hospital will incorporate CHP technology for energy efficiency and reliability.

Hunterdon Healthcare has selected A/Z Corporation as its design-build lead for the implementation of a combined heat and power (CHP) system at Hunterdon Medical Center (HMC) in Flemington, NJ. The project will consist of the design and construction of a 1.5 MW CHP facility that will produce electricity, steam, hot water, and chilled water on a 24/7/365 basis.

In addition to providing HMC with significantly increased energy efficiency, it will also give the hospital with the ability to operate in island mode. In the event of a major power outage event, the hospital would be able to operate independent of the local energy grid to keep critical services online for patients and staff. Additionally, the CHP system will have black-start capability, which will allow the system to be started in the absence of grid power.

The A/Z team will be leveraging our experience in the design and construction of distributed generation systems at active healthcare facilities to develop a customized solution to HMC’s requirements.
