Wesleyan University’s Melon Neurobiology Lab Renovation

Wesleyan University engaged A/Z to provide design-build services for the renovation of the approximately 1,100 SF of laboratory space in Shanklin Hall. The Melon Neurobiology Lab Renovation was designed to create a new wet lab and vivarium animal holding area on the third floor of this facility.

For this engagement, A/Z served as the design-build lead to the University. Our designers prepared the engineering contract documents for the electrical and fire alarm systems along with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.

As construction got underway, the workspace was gutted to facilitate the new floor plan. The plumbing system was demolished and rebuilt for the new purpose of the space, and new compressed air and natural gas piping were installed. The space was fit out with new fume hoods, sinks, turrets, emergency eyewash, and an emergency shower.
